100 Years of Rotary
Lead the Way

Our Beginning

Harry George Stanton of Toronto, the 1920-21 District Governor was in office when the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls Canada was chartered on March 1, 1921. It is recorded that “on March 16th, 1921, in the I.O.O.F. Hall, Queen Street, under Charter No. 840, the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls, Ontario was officially opened by District No. 4 Governor Harry Stanton”

Although our club has been frequently referred to as the 6th oldest club in Canada, the record shows that there were at least eleven other chartered Rotary Clubs in Canada prior to the year 1921. Possibly, they were not in operation yet.

Those responsible for forming

During the latter part of 1920, Arthur Kinzinger and D.N. Fielding, (Niagara Falls, NY club) submitted the matter to their Club Directors and they graciously offered to sponsor the Niagara Falls, Ontario Club.

In January, 1921, E.L. Griffith, J.B. Hallworth and D.N. Fielding were favoured guests of Arthur Kinzinger at a regular meeting and at the directors’ meeting of their Club and Arthur was given the responsibility as Governor’s Deputy and Mr. Fielding was appointed Organizer.
